Engaging Communities to Improve Early Grade Reading
Through a partnership between USAID and Peace Corps, this activity's goal is to strengthen parental and community engagement in literacy activities to improve students' early grade reading outcomes through tutoring and establishing community libraries in Mozambique. Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) will create community library programs at their project sites and train community counterparts in basic literacy activities intended to increase foundational reading skills of children in grades 1–3. Activities will include storytelling, games, reading, writing competitions, summer reading camps and read-alouds. PCVs will be provided with grade-appropriate books to ensure children have access to a variety of materials.
