USAID Climate Strategy 2022-2030
USAID is advancing U.S. government objectives to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions in the coming decade and helping countries increase their resilience to global climate change through its new Agency-wide Climate Strategy 2022-2030, rooted in inclusion and equity.
The Climate Strategy guides the Agency’s efforts to target climate change resources strategically, ramp up climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts, and further integrate climate change considerations into international development and humanitarian assistance programs across all sectors. The Strategy supports USAID’s implementation of President Biden’s Executive Orders on the climate crisis EO 13990 - Protecting Public Health and the Environment and Restoring Science to Tackle the Climate Crisis, EO 14008 - Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad, and EO 14013 - Rebuilding and Enhancing Programs to Resettle Refugees and Planning for the Impact of Climate Change on Migration.
USAID implements climate solutions on the ground globally with countries facing the greatest threats from climate change and countries that are integral partners in addressing the climate crisis.
Climate change poses challenges to education infrastructure and learning outcomes. Education equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities to adapt to and overcome climate challenges, and strong education systems can implement proactive measures to reduce climate shocks and stressors in the long-term. USAID is integrating climate adaptation into sectoral activities by improving access to and quality of education, and supporting education systems to build resilience and produce a generation of climate-aware citizens ready to innovate, take action, and engage with their governments to demand a more sustainable future.
