The Enabling Writers Workshop Experience in Nigeria
This webinar spotlights the Nigerian Enabling Writers (EW) Workshop program, responsible for creating more than 200 leveled and decodable books in the Hausa language with publicly available Bloom book-writing software. Supported by All Children Reading: A Grand Challenge for Development and the Reading within REACH initiative funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), this grassroots writing and book production effort has potential to be carried out at a large scale. In cooperation with Global Book Alliance partners, EW titles will be open-licensed and placed on digital platforms for sharing, electronic use and large-scale printing.
The webinar explores key elements of Nigeria's EW program, quality assurance approaches, and engaging government in insuring success and plans for sustaining the program. Recommendations on how to set up a similar program are shared. The REACH initiative is supporting other EW programs in Bangladesh, Haiti, Indonesia, Nepal, and the Philippines.
